This is part 2 of our design strategies of a disc. Here are some more elaborate examples of incorporating the silver nature of the disc to the design.
1. Partial white base over silver
Most discs (burned or replicated) have a clear inner ring (sometimes called a stacking ring). Therefore the surface of the disc is not uniform in color because of that, there will be a mix of silver and clear plastic. This design uses a partial white base, as shown here:
2. Matte varnish over silver
Matte varnish can be applied either on silver or on top of ink to produce a subtle muted effect, below the ‘whiter’ areas are in matte:

3. CMYK print over silver
Printing full color offset image on silver produces a metallic look because all the white elements will appear silver as shown in our example here:
4 . Partial white base
If you are not a fan of the all over metallic look like the previous example, but you’d like a little bit of silver showing, we can also apply a ‘partial white base’, meaning selective areas of the disc will have a white base coating. This will help bring out the expected color of the artwork, while keeping the silver color coming through on certainparts. In this example, a partial white base is applied in all areas except the silver symbol.
