What expectation should you have on the video quality of your DVD? First, DVD is standard definition, which means it will not have the same image quality as their original high definition source.

Second, picture quality will vary on the viewing format. Different televisions and monitors are calibrated differently depending on the preference of the owner. This means brightness, contrast, color, and gain are always going to be different on somebody else’s screen. There is no way to account for all the variables of viewing capability- you must choose the video quality that you are most happy with on the viewing method available, and hope that whoever else views their materials has a similar viewing device calibrated in a similar way.

Even a “Hollywood movie” looks different on different monitors.
