Creating organic, rustic CD/DVD packaging

January 19th, 2010 by Shirley · 1 Comment · CD DVD packaging, Printing/Design

In the year 2010 eco-friendly packaging is still hotter than ever, how can you create a packaging that has that organic and rustic look? We have a few recommendation:
1. Reverse printing: in this method the reverse uncoated side of the cardboard is used for printing, and the result is an original packaging that is rustic but still provide a smooth surface to provide high level of detail. Keep in mind however, this paper stock is not considered recycled, it is our standard stock with 20% post consumer waste.

2. Recycled stock: think of the cardboard that is used to make cereal boxes, is very similar to the recycled stock we use for sleeves, wallets and digipaks. It contains 80% post consumer waste, and has a unique surface that is quite different from AQ, matte or gloss.
3. Woodfree / fiberboard: the look and feel of woodfree/fiberboard is similar to kraft paper, or corrugated boxes. It can be a one of a kind packaging without a fancy design. With this stock, stick with simple design that is mostly made of vector art or illustrations. This stock however does not contain much post consumer waste, so it is not considered recycled.
