Actual metallic foil is stamped onto the artwork to create this dramatic look. Its reflective surface gives a mirror-like finish. To create this effect on the artwork create the foil areas using one spot color (e.g., Pantone Black) so that it can be separated easily. There are many different varieties in tone and patterns available in foil printing, so check what's available for your particular project. 
While matte and glossy finishes are very distinctive, combining the two can create interesting results. Selective areas of glossy on matte finish makes certain elements of the artwork really stand out. To create that effect simply create the glossy area using one spot color (e.g., Pantone Black) so that it can be separated easily. The glossy layer is a transparent layer of coating that will be added on top of the printed piece.
When a digipak is folded and glued, the spine area that is on the inside of the digipak can be printed to match the rest of the artwork. It can be printed either with one spot color, one CMYK color or an artwork to match the pattern on the digipak. This way the artwork will span across the inside panels for a complete look. 
Most of the CD printing starts out by printing a white mask (white flood) to create a blank canvas. If the white mask is omitted, it can create some very interesting effect. All the areas that are white on the artwork will instead be silver, and areas that are semi-transparent will come with a hint of metallic look. The effect can be amazing and best of all it only takes imagination and creativity, not extra cost!
If you are looking for a more rustic and organic look, try reverse printing. The process is basically to take the cardboard flat, instead of printing on the coated side, it prints on the reverse side which is unocated. 
Woodfree paper stock allows some rustic and creative elements that can dramatically change a design. It also gives a very eco-friendly look to the packaging. When desiging for woodfree stock keep in mind that the colors will not be as vibrant as on regular stock. 
Die cutting allows special shapes to be cut out from printed cardboard jackets, wallets and digipaks. Special die-cuts can create special pockets to hold discs. In this example, a special die cut is created horizontally to hold the disc. Additionally it can be made vertically, in moon, raindrop, thumb and other shapes.
